Of course you can bring a bike on the boat to access these, but there\u2019s a practical limit of two you can store on the roof of the boat, making it impractical for larger crews. You could call a taxi or use a ride share service, but that also becomes impractical considering the number of attractions along the route of the Kennet &amp; Avon Canal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Wilton Windmill (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wiltonwindmill.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\">Wilton Windmill<\/a> truly is nearby, just 1 mi\/1.6 km, from Lock 61\/Bridge 100 on the canal. The windmill is fully restored now and, of course, is operated and maintained by volunteers. You can visit the site at anytime, but is open for guided tours from Easter to September on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays from 2 pm to 5 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\"  id=\"_ytid_93387\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"  data-origwidth=\"800\" data-origheight=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4_TzEcCA5-w?enablejsapi=1&#038;autoplay=0&#038;cc_load_policy=0&#038;cc_lang_pref=&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;loop=0&#038;rel=1&#038;fs=1&#038;playsinline=0&#038;autohide=2&#038;theme=dark&#038;color=red&#038;controls=1&#038;disablekb=0&#038;\" class=\"__youtube_prefs__  epyt-is-override  no-lazyload\" title=\"YouTube player\"  allow=\"fullscreen; accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen data-no-lazy=\"1\" data-skipgform_ajax_framebjll=\"\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll find the windmill just southwest of Great Bedwyn and very near the Crofton Beam Engines mentioned in a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"previous post (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/narrowboatingforbeginners.com\/wordpress\/historic-pumping-stations\/\" target=\"_blank\">previous post<\/a>. Also very nearby is Wilton Water, a reservoir fed by springs that provides water to the canal. The reservoir is also a nature habitat with a number of trails and footpaths to explore the area. If you\u2019ve exhausted yourself visiting the reservoir, you can walk just a little further to the village of Wilton and refresh yourself at The Swan Inn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/embed?mid=1VOdEozwVnyb0_Lcq4sHl3qWISX6B34X-\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>You could, in fact, make a 3.2 mi\/5.15 km loop, leaving the canal at bridge 100, walking to the windmill, then to the village of Wilton, then to Wilton Water and the beam engines and returning to bridge 100. Admittedly this could be a whole day outing if you were to take tours of the windmill and the beam engines.
