Bath guided walks
I’ve decided to post short articles about the many things to see and do while exploring the Kennet & Avon Canal. These snippets will eventually end up in my guide book to the canal.
The Mayor of Bath’s Corps of Honorary Guides offers free guided walking tours of Bath every day of the year except Christmas. From Sunday to Friday there are 10:30 am and 2 pm walks, but only a 10:30 am walk Saturday. In addition, there are evening walks Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 pm May through August. All walks begin in front of Bath Abbey and take two hours. The walk isn’t strenuous and wheelchair users are welcome (the walk will be adjusted to avoid stairs) but the guides are not able to assist with moving the chairs. Guides will not accept tips.
There are several paid guided tours of Bath and I’m sure most of them are high quality, but how can you compete with free guides conducted by enthusiastic volunteers.
Of course your schedule may not coincide with the mayor’s guides, so the VisitBath website offers two free downloadable audio guides, World Heritage Site Audio Tour and In the Footsteps of Jane Austen. Clicking those last two links will automatically download MP3 audio files.
